Title: Buck McNair, Spitfire Ace
Authour: Norman Franks
ISBN: 1-902304-74-8
Publisher: Grub Street
Stars: 4 (out of 5)
This book is about a Canadian Spitfire Pilot and his whole career from birth to death.
98% of the book is on WWII and how Robert "Buck" McNair rose from pilot up to WingCo and then follows up with his post war year postings.
The battle descriptions are good though I have read better. The memoir tells of his posting with various squadrons in Britain and Malta and then back to Britain. Ultimately with his promotion to lead a Canadian Wing.
Includes why he was taken off of flight status due to eye injuries sustained in battle.
Well written and recommended for the person looking for Allied Memoirs, and/or Pilot memoirs. The story flows easily and has quotes from pilots that flew with "Buck".
A nice little feature of the book is that the authour has researched some of the battles and who the victims and victors were on the Axis side after some of the air battles.
Recommended.
