The final army volume in the Australian Official History Series. Interesting look at the campaigns that were left behind -- New Guinea, New Britain and Bouginville -- after the U.S. turned over those areas to the Australians in late 1944, and at the Australian participation in the campaigns in Borneo and surrounding areas in the summer of 1945. Neither area has received any notice in American writings. The Australians killed thousands of Japanese at very small cost, yet there were questions about whether the campaigns were even necessary. An excellent standard of scholarship and writing, as in all the Australian officials.
