Rates this book: 4 star

This is an excellent account of the campaign by SWPA Forces advance towards the Phillipines. Not so well known battles in this theatre are dealt with in considerable detail. Although these volumes deal with the main U S Army Operations throughout there is good background to all of the supporting forces engaged. The battles along The Driniumor and the conquest of Biak are covered in detail. The development of the Island hopping aspect of the Pacific War are neatly explaind within this volume and the preceeding volumes. What is so revealing about this volume and all the others in The Pacific War Series is the Myth of the Japanese Superman. In all of these works it is astonishing that U S and Allied Forces maintained the upper hand over the Japanese once Gaudalcanel had been siezed and pushed back towards Buna over the Kokoda Trail in New Guinea. Highly recommended in this volume and all the others is the detailed Maps within the Book and as end supplements.
