Actually, contrarily to the expectations raised by Stone&Stone's review, there is very little that was new or generally unknown about the pitfalls and problems of strategic bombing in WWII in this book -and I must say I have not read a good part of the literature on the subject. As it is quite an expensive book (and a paperback, too) this was quite annoying. What was really irritating, though, was the style and tone of the writing, which frankly looked like the worst yellow press.

Even thoughI agree with the main thesis of the book -that strategic bombing was vastly oversold and (to use today's terminology)over-hyped-, I am still disappointed because I expected a scholarly treatment of the subject, but got a pamphlet. Maybe that explains the paperback treatment of it.

If one knows nothing at all about strategic bombing in WWII, or only the glossy magazine view of it, the book might be useful. Otherwise a waste of time and money.
